Theremin Dance performance in Arnhem and Amsterdam

Art Production houses Generale Oost (GO) and Oost Nederland (ON) present the theremin dance performance "I don't remember what time it was". In this performance David Brandstaetter, Malgven Gerbes (choreography and dance), Wilco Botermans (installation and music) and Julien Crepieux play in an interactive environment where themovement of the dance controls the music.

In previous years people have worked in laboratory situations building installations in which movement controls sound. Theremins, infra red sensors, lightsensors and camera systems were used to capture the movements. In other setups the dancers were carrying around an array of sensors and their cables.

At http://www.medienkunstnetz.de/works/variations-v you'll find a text and video of such a performance. This is "Variations V" (1965), by John Cage and the Merce Cunningham dance company. 40 years later the concept of movement controlling sounds still fascinates many.

"I don't remember what time it was" is presented in combination with "Space InvasiON". In this breakdance performance the dancers also control the music, using an advanced camera setup by Frans-Jan Wind.
