RCA Theremin #200051 back on the auction block (for real?)

RCA Theremin #200051 is listed again on eBay. The bids are around $1500 (US) as of this posting.

This theremin was originally listed on June 18th but failed to sell (even with a top bid of $6743) because the reserve wasn't met. This time around, the seller elected not to issue a reserve price.

Before bidding, note these interesting differences between the last auction attempt and this one:

  • The previous auction's seller was "2005serenah", and this one is "golverrau", both with 0 previous eBay sales
  • The previous auction location was Indiana (USA), and this one is listed in London (UK)
  • Previous was a 7 day listing, current is a 3 day listing

Being the skeptic that I am, I smell a rat... Bid with caution if you bid.

I have contacted this 'new' seller' who said he just moved out in England. His reply from Ebay noted: "eBay sent this message to Charles Henry  (golverrau)." However when I mentioned Steve and Serena Hoffman in a later message, he is now responding signing his name as 'Steve Hoffman'. He may not be aware Ebay noted 'Charles Henry' earlier. Anyway, he only wants CASH sent through Western Union, saying he is not yet a citizen and can't do PayPal and would not respond to using www.escrow.com. I also contacted the original seller for info, but have no response from them yet. I said I wouldn't bid since there is no guarantee of shipment after a cash transfer. Will let you know if I hear from original seller.

Looks like the auction has been taken down already. Looks like we stopped a scam in its tracks!

Ugh, the "seller" contacted me directly (with my other "secret" e-mail alias) after the auction was removed to see if I was interested, after I had sent a question via eBay asking him/her if the auction was a fake. Apparently, they now live in Miami, FL (not Indiana OR the UK).

Just remember to watch the warning signs... sellers with 0 feedback (not even a single purchase on eBay) are a bad bad sign.
