Theremin on MASH

In Season 8 of the hit comedy M.A.S.H., Hawkeye adds a "therem" to Klinger's "in" during a Scrabble game. I'm not sure which surprises me more... the pop culture reference to a theremin, the fact that they spelled it right, or Hawkeye's explanation and imitation.

Check out this forum post for the link to the video.

Thanks David and Jon!

Thanks for the bump.

It's not Klinger, though. It's some minor character.

Ah, thanks. I think the Aloha shirt threw me. Of course, if it was Klinger, he'd be wearing a dress.

Yes, the secondary character is Egor.

He is usually seen taking abuse while dishing out the chow in the officers mess (although everyone eats there).

In later episodes (like this one) he moonlights as bartender at the officers club (which replaced "Rosie's Bar", and which is also open to everyone).

I'm sure I saw this episode when it first aired and a couple of times since then. However, at the time I had no way to make the connection between the word "theremin" and the wonderful "thing" I saw for the first time in Led Zeppelin's concert film, "The Song Remains The Same". It took at least another twenty years, with the help of the internet, before I was able to make the connection shortly after the turn of this century.
