How To Tell If You're Tone Deaf

Before you undertake the theremin, consider undertaking this quick online test to see if you're tone def. It's a Flash application that plays 2 musical phrases and you decide if they're the same or different. Apparently, it's designed to be difficult, so don't feel too bad if you don't score well. If you've taken it, let us know what your score is.

That was kind of fun... I got a score of 77.8%. It could have could have been my ears playing tricks on me, but I heard slight variations in the phrasing and voicing of some of the polyphonic examples. I took it the test again just for grins and scored 86.1% Everybody, take the test. Yay! Nice find, Jason!

that's a simon-says game. it's testing your memory as well as your hearing.

they say the memory is the second thing to fail,
i dont remember what the first one was.

I got 94.4% correct, and I feel certain that the rest were more due to my memory than to my ear.

Maybe there's hope for me to play the Theremin yet...

I started it but I can't do it here at work.

I have to have th evolume so low and there are too many phone ringing and people talking etc.

A few were obvious to me but there were some that I cold not tell at low volume.

I'll do it agian at him and hopefully will get through it.

They have a rhythym test too...

S spelling test might be in order. I am not sure if I spelled ryhythymhym correctly...

What about your pitch discrimination? That's probably more important for theremin. I got 1.35 Hz differentiation first time around, and I'm retaking now. Unfortunately I didn't realise there was a replay option.

Just tried again. I got 0.87 Hz. Woooh! Did it again, and I got 0.45! woooo!

Did the first test a while ago. Got 83% or something like that then. 75% today. 84% on a similar test recently. I choose to think of today as an anomaly.

0.75 Hz on the pitch discrimination - first attempt! Woo. Not trying again. :-)

60% on the rhythm. Typical can't-dance schmo. Sounds about right to me.

I got 75%, but I was getting distracted by a cat climbing on my chest trying to be cute. I'm going to take it again tomorrow with headphones and see if I can do better.

Oooh.... 83.3. The 79th percentile. I was surprised by this number seeing as how after years of playing in heavy metal bands and working with power tools has actually damaged my hearing. Anyway, there it is, 83.3 on the tonedeafnes test.

OK, so now I am trying to take the test at home but I can't get the %#@$& thing to load!

At lease I got my picture loaded onto my profile.

I'll just have to do it at work after all.

I'd better email it to my boss and co-workers. That way everybody will be doing it and they won;t keep asking me where the music is coming from...

77.8 now that I have gotten through it. I will take it again and see if I improve.

Just for grins I went through it and picked "different" every time and it said 50%...
