It's EtherMusic season! Moog Music has officially announced the 2008 EtherMusic Festival! This year's event will be held in Asheville, North Carolina on April 24-27, 2008. (If you haven't been to Asheville in the spring, you haven't fully enjoyed life!)
Registration for the festival is now open, and you can sign up at the festival's website, Ethermusicfest.com. Register before March 1st for an early-bird discount.
Update - The festival's MySpace Page, http://www.myspace.com/ethermusicfest, went live today. Check it out to hear music samples from the headliners and get updates and see photos from the 2005 festival.
Building on the great success of their last event, this year's festival will feature another composition contest, workshops, concerts, a Moog Music factory tour, and a full lineup of stars including Lydia Kavina, Dorit Chrysler, Carolina Eyck, The Xenovibes and Randy George!!

I couldn't help but notice that Pamelia Kurstin has disappeared from the line-up - probably because she'll be in London and Norway according to her mySpace site - but that's more than made up by the new names to appear on the list. Good to see Randy George getting some recognition - I've noticed a fairly steady stream of newcomers to these forums who are also video game fans and users of youTube, so great to see a talented new thereminist and active theremin evangelist getting the big-ups from Moog. (Did you see his impromptu performance for Moog at Namm on youTube (http://youtube.com/watch?v=oq363tEd1UI)?)
The other name that jumped out at me was Dorit Chrysler - which lends hope that the New York Theremin Society could have some presence there. That would be a good thing. ;-)
But enough of the celebs - there are apparently more to come, and, here is the key bit - they are actively inviting feedback from the online theremin community, looking for people wanting to perform, wanting to hear what people want. So right now is a good time to petition them for your favourite artists (if I were going I'd be heading up the We Want Kevin Kissinger campaign!) to tell them things you would like to see added or removed from the agenda (do you really want a guided tour of the factory?) and generally help them hone it to your requirements.
So this is the good news - they will listen. None of your floccinaucinihilipilification! Clicking on their email button is a worthwhile exercise. This I know because I have already shared my thoughts with them (-: at their invitation! - it seems that organising Hands Off earned me a reputation :-) and the announcement does reflect some - not all - of my suggestions.
And of course - if you're going, tell all your friends, if you want to go but can't, tell Moog why.

While youse guy browbeat moog I'll start on stage 2 - finding an audience!
(Not just for the Big K - so many beautiful, beautiful people needing to be seen - Lydia, Carolina, Dorit, Shueh-Li, Randy...)

See if you can spot the subtle, understated big-ups!

It's nice that the registration fee is a little more affordable.
But to whom do I mail my "I want Keven", please?
Can you make it?
To answer the question: "Yes."
Jason Barile and I received a lovely email from Moog, thanking us all for our efforts to support EtherMusic!
Hurrah!
From this we can deduce that Moog are watching the forum and like what they see.
It also means they certainly know about Kevin and Philip, so we can stop bombarding them about that.
And, as Philip noted, they're waiting to see what other spots are suggested, so keeping my fingers crossed. :-) (From my experience of Hands Off I would hazard a guess that there's a financial aspect to this. I know I needed deposits from attendees desperately - so stop thinking about it and click on the pay button!!!)
(There's another good reason to act sooner than later - we are generating interest. It is more than feasible that demand could outstrip supply. Imagine that sinking feeling when you miss the bus.)
And, Moog are joining in the mySpace game. They've set up a mySpace profile for the festival. (Gosh, they really are paying attention!)

I'm just off to the Challenge to our members (http://www.Thereminw...) thread to talk more about that - and the email from moog - there was more than just a thank you (otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it - personal emails are, well, personal.)
> Can you make it?
> > "Yes"
Ah... Great.
And than again.... Who cares.
Kevin HAS to go.
Even if we have to carry him. :-)
Its been a pure bear to even find time to breath this week with my work schedule.
On the slim chance I am granted a spot on the program, I need a FIRST rank thereminist to play Gabby for the demonstration, but not a RANK thereminist.
Kevin---interested?
Philip
If I'm in Asheville I would be pleased to make music with Gabriella.
Gabriella has a remarkable, almost "magic" voice and I think everyone would enjoy seeing, hearing, and playing it.

Got a telephone call last night around 9:30 PM. It was the carpenter Mr. Charles who is a friend of Sheri’s Dad. Charles worked at the Chapparal boat plant for 30+ years building cabinetry for high end power boats. He told us that Gabriella’s custom cabinet is finally completed. We are planning on traveling up to Nashville GA next weekend and checking it out. Hopefully, all will be fine dimensionally.
I would be more than happy to pass the temporary cabinent on to anyone else who is building a Keppinger just for the asking. And in the spirit of Mr. Mark who has been very kind to me I will also cover shipping. You can see what the temporary cabinet looks like at http://home.comcast.net/~ka4koe/keppinger.htm
I was hoping the cabinet would be completed in time for Etherfest! If I get the nod to do the program Gabriella will be properly clothed!
My preferred email is ka4koe@arrl dot net
