ThereminWorld owner Jason Barile is not only a theremin player, but also very active in environmental issues and a skilled HyperMiler.
"A hypermiler is somebody who is dedicated to getting the maximum mileage they can from their car," Jason told ABC news in Raleigh N.C.
Besides supporting ThereminWorld and writing extensively on the Theremin, Jason has been putting his tips and passion for personal action to help the environment out on the web.
His on line commentary about his HyperMiling practice caught the interest of Tim Nelson at Channel 11 News in N.C. and Jason is featured in the news story "Hypermiling in the Triangle" they aired on television July 10th.
Good Going Jason!
Thanks for helping our planet as well as our Theremin Community.

Another thing that makes a big difference for my mileage is to keep the tires inflated to the maximum allowable pressure.
In 2000, I purchased a 4-cylinder Cougar (manual transmission) and the decision was based on the notion that I would use the car primarily for commutes to work and I didn't need to haul a lot of empty seats to work with me. I get 33 mpg in the city and 38 on the highway.
I'm keeping the Cougar maintained -- I intend to keep it until they come out with a plugin hybrid (or a hydrogen car) that gets 50+ mpg. With a plugin, most days I would never run on anything other than the battery.
Rarely are there simple answers for the world's problems however to break our dependence on fossil fuels will make us safer -- particularly if we can avoid imported oil. Also, we can make a significant reduction in the amount of pollutants and greenhouse gases.
Well, just for grins -- I'm going to try some of Jason's hypermiling tips. I already do quite a few of them (coasting, avoiding fast starts, driving the limit, and using cruise control). On those 93 degree days I really like to use the a/c though -- I may roll down the windows and check the results.
Of course, here in the UK hypermiling is not a new concept, just a new name.
We call it "Sunday Driving" as caution, frugality and diligence are considered holy virtues, and Sunday Drivers often identify themselves by wearing a traditional flat cap, harking back to the early days of motoring when driving at high speed was not an option.
Sunday Drivers are greatly respected by other road users, who will tootle their horns encouragingly, or give them a victory salute as they overtake them.
The nice thing about driving at the speed limit is that one can turn on the cruise control -- after all, at the speed limit, one is not likely to "catch up" with any slower-moving traffic.
Not to mention, that I don't have to worry getting speeding tickets.
Theirry - I consider hypermiling to be getting the maximum mileage from a tank of gas, but I like your approach too!
With the gas problem here, maybe it will force some new habits like those.
I was hoping you could have mentioned the Theremin, but that probably would have shot your wacko-factor up a million points.
Drive safe everybody,
and keep on playing!
Oh, so THAT'S what they're doing; all these years I've thought their kindly encouraging salutes meant something else entirely!
