I will present a workshop at MoogFest on Saturday Afternoon at 3pm to showcase the Etherwave Plus theremin.

This is a late addition and hopefully they will update the Moogfest site with the info soon.

We're going to pass on this year's MoogFest, for this very reason, unfortunately. I like electronic music, but my passion is the theremin.

When Big Briar (Moog Music) first started out, the only things they made were theremins. Over the years the focus seems to have shifted to a wide variety of very fine keyboards and peripherals. This isn't surprising since that is where the market is.

Bob Moog had a personal passion for the theremin so it was always a focus of his work. That passion is not shared by the "powers that be" at Moog Music today. Besides, the company wouldn't survive if theremins were its focus.

The Etherwave used to be the only show in town, but today there are all sorts of theremin manufacturing companies all competing in the same very small "niche". Another thing that has happened is the arrival of ebay. Theremins that people no longer want, or have lost interest in, are not relegated to the garage or the attic like they used to be. They are recycled on ebay. New buyers looking for a deal can pick up a used instrument for far less than they would have to spend for a new one.

Frankly, I think thereminists are better off staging events of their own, like the kinds of conferences and festivals we see happening regularly in Europe.
