Lydia Kavina will be featured in a celebration of Clara Rockmore's centeniary on March 18th at a gallery here in New York. Since the U. S. Embassy would not grant her a visa, Lydia is now scheduled to appear on video and via live web link from Oxford, England. Players from Russia and the United States are also scheduled to appear both live and virtually, and some members of Clara's family may be there as well. The event will include theremin performances, discussions of Clara's technique and legacy and Russian tea.

The event is at 6:00 pm in the Frants Gallery Space in New York City 81 Wooster Street, 4th Floor.

Hope to see you there!

ThereminWorld has been assured this event is definitely happening! Confirmations are trickling in and we've heard for sure that Dorit Chrysler is performing. Dalit Warsaw, Olivia Mattis, Albert Glinsky, Vladimir Kitlyar and Sergey Teterin (St. Petersburg, Russia) are expected as are Bob Sherman and several other members of Clara's family! And there will be a short film about Clara Rockmore too.
This is going to be awesome, hope to see some other TW folk there. Please say "hi", I'll be wearing black...

"the U. S. Embassy would not grant her a visa.."

What T F ???

Does anyone know the reason? This looks like an outrage - the effective banning of the ambasador from the (usually - LOL) peace-loving Global Theremin community.

We have witnessed the power people have to change their world - over the last month or so we have seen dictators trashed and empires fall..

Is it time for us to take to the streets - surround the American embassies with angry Theremin players (dont forget to have someone with a portable power supply and PA) And demand a change to the constitution..

We also want a change to all national flags - a small (not < 10%) image of the theremin is to be included, in recognition of our growing numbers and importance, and of the hallowed status of our holy instrument.

If we do not act now, we might be facing This ... (3rd posting down this page) (http://www.thereminw...).

Who knows, could be a million reasons, maybe they needed a visa agent. It can be a time consuming and complicated process.

Word of warning ;-) ..

For the next few months (at least until after HO-2011) I am unlikely to engage in serious debate here on TW - I will be visiting primarily for fun, and to see whats happening - It will be a "visit TW while I have a cup of coffee".

I have too many things to do, and far too much on my mind, and no spare capacity for any technical diversions.

So my postings are likely to be lighthearted and probably a bit daft.. I am not Seriously thinking there is some new Theremin/Kavina spy conspiracy which the CIA has picked up on... ;-) ..yet!

LOL - As for a thereminists revolution.. Lets just hope, for the sake of peoples democracy, that the security services never cotton on to the potential power of the theremin when used for dispersing crowds.. ;-)

An amazing, inspiring glorious mess of an evening. Probably around 70 or 80 people, the loft space got packed.

So many theremin-friends, great stories, and theremin music. Will take a bit to get the impressions together.

Did anyone else make it?
