Hands OFF! 2011 kicks off this Thursday, July 28th for an intensive weekend of discussions, workshops, masterclasses and a theremin rich environment featuring Lydia Kavina, Barbara Buchholz, Carolina Eyck, Thorwald Jorgensen, Gordon Charlton/Beat Frequency, master theremin builder Thierry Frenkel and many others. Hands OFF! is hosted in the English town of Scarborough – the very first seaside holiday resort.
During the week following HO2011 there will be theremin performances throughout Scarborough, culminating in a spectacular concert at the Spa Theatre.
If you can get to the UK, get to Hands OFF! It's going to be a fantastic week for players and lovers of the theremin.
Congratulations to Gordon Charlton and Anthony Springall on producing this unique theremin event.

Could one of you tell me the make of this small (or rather thin) theremin that one is playing outside backwards?
It's rather interesting!!
Made by Dominik Bednarz.

Just... Wow!
Best Hands Off so far.
I will say more in a week or so when I am back from holiday and have had time to get my thoughts in order. Now I am off to start another thread singing Thierry Frenkel's praises. :-)

I would like to know what Dan Burns "Space Controller" is supposed to be seen here (http://www.flickr.co...).
A smaller version of it seems to be used by Gordon (http://www.flickr.co...)..
And interesting too looks this (http://www.flickr.co...) performance by Wilco Botermans. MIDI controller? Which program?
I read somewhere about a Vinyl recording, did that happen?
Gordon is using something totally different: A battery driven milk frother (German: Milchaufschäumer) which rotates and thus generates a kind of tremolo.
Wilco is using MaxMsp as software and an USB theremin developed by the Russian scientist Andrey Smirnov.
The recordings did happen, but the vinyl has not yet made apparition...
It looks like a lot of fun for the electronic musician. :-)
Frankly, unless something is held on this side of the ocean, taking a theremin is not in the picture, especially a vacuum tube model.
Sincerely yours,
Philip and Sheri Neidlinger
