newer etherwaves

Interesting. Mine is about a year and a half out of the shop, and I recall that when I posted my first recording made with it someone commented on the clarity of the sound in comparison to their older etherwave.

Hmm. Possibly there is variation between individual etherwaves. It certainly wouldn't surprise me if retuning the coils had an effect on the timbre. I'll leave that to someone who understands the electronics better to determine. Or perhaps someone could ask one of Moog's engineers about it at EtherMusic. Is anyone reading this thread going?

On sunday I will connect my oscilloscope to my Etherwave standard and play a little bit around.

Gordon, you may be right that retuning the coils may have an influence on the output wavefrom since it is not only depending of the position of the waveform and brightness knobs, but also of the frequency. Coupling effects appear when both pitch oscillators have very close frequencies, that means, when the theremin produces very low tones. You surely have heard that when going below middle C the timbre gets more and more rough.

I would wish for my Etherwave (and for myself) that these effects were not so important... I'm thinking of modifying it in order to get a smoother sound at low frequencies.
