I'm a Music Technology student at NYU, and I'm trying to build a Terpsitone for a class... I know it'll take some work, but I have a whole team of people behind me... anybody have a schematic or suggest to call/email anybody who would?

Thanks,

Ric

What an exciting project!
This is definitely a topic to post on Levnet as well. Bet you'll get responses.
Good luck and keep us posted.

I'd love to hear more about this project as it unfolds. Bob Moog worked with a group at Harvard (I may have the school wrong there) to build one a few years ago. Perhaps you could get in touch with them to learn more.

Afaik Lydia Kavina has a terpsitone. It was built for her by Lev Theremin. (You can send a mail to info@lydiakavina.com)

Also Wilco Botermans just has finished a theremin-dance project. Not with a terpsitone, but five theremins hanging from a ceiling above the stage, being 'played' by two dancers. Maybe Wilco has some pointers.
He 's in Germany for a few days, I will get his attention to this thread when he's back.

Hi all,
What the wave is a terpsitone? That name peaks my interest!
Thanks,

That body instrument has NOTHING to do with the terpsitone. It's a Kinect driven MIDI device. It's neither capacitance controlled, nor heterodyning, as the original terpsitone was.

Basically, the terpsitone is nothing other than a (true heterodyning) theremin where the oscillators have been designed for heavier capacitive load, and where the pitch antenna has been replaced by a conductive part inside the platform.
