I love the Matryomin! These videos are the reason I want one, but I can't find out how to get one. It would be perfect for portability and practice!

Do you know anyone going on holiday to Japan? It may come to that. :-(

I think I recall being told that they don't ship outside of Japan. But I'm not 100% sure of that.

For what it is worth, here (link (http://tinyurl.com/yrm6pt)) is an auto-translated description of the matryomin on the manufacturer's website. As you will see, they are about $388 before shipping.

Unfortunately clicking on the buy button opens up your basket inside a frame, which defeats Google's translator, and removing the frame stops the shop from working. And I am not inclined to cut and paste the text in the shop piece at a time into a text translator to find out if they ship overseas as I think the absence of support for other languages offers a pretty heavy clue that they do not.

You might try clicking on the dealers link and following the links there - I tried one but rapidly tired of faffing about with Google Language Tools.

(Or simpler still, follow the about us link and email the company. If nothing else it will let them know there is overseas demand for the product.)

Both ensembles are amazing. Would be fun to see one of both of these groups live.

Did Masami Takeuchi invent the matrydom? Somehow I have the impression that he came up with the idea. Does anyone know the history behind this instrument?
