Etherwave plus tune up required?

Now that summer weather is here down under, I'm finding I have to turn the pitch knob further and
further clockwise as it gets hotter. I'm just about to run out of range.

Is it time to pull the cover off and fiddle with those adjustable coils L5 and L6?

I'm kind of nervous about making things worse.

Hmmm how do I get that 3KHz tone exactly without
a scope?

a) don't make things more complcated than they are: if you see the pitch knob as a clock, it is normal that you have to turn it one hour clockwise for each 3 to 4 degrees Celsius/5 to 7 degrees Fahrenheit increase of the ambient temperature.
b) don't risk to mess up your pitch field by adjusting L5. A simple slight correction of L6 will do the job. If the slug has a hexagonal hole, it will need about 1/12 turn counterclockwise in order to bring the pitch knob back to the center position, while the older coils with a normal slot have to be turned the same amount, clockwise.

Thanks for the tips. I was finally forced to take action and gave L6 a little tweak. I can now
tune up ok again.

I was a little surprised how much difference
having the case cover on makes to the tuning.

With the cover off, everything was fine before I
made any adjustment! Hmmm and unless I am
imagining things the Etherwave+ sounds better
with the case off!

A few cycles of case off, tiny tweak, case on
got the pitch range back to where it should be.

If you look at the cover from the bottom you will see that there are 9 big screws which hold the cover together. It's their additional capacitance which makes the difference.

Why didn't they just construct the case with glue and wooden dowels instead of using so much ironmongery?

They didn't want fishmongers fishing around inside.

Coalport: surely a modern glue would be more efficacious at preventing ingress to the delicate Etherwave innards if that was their intent. :p

That chainmail of yours must play merry hell with your pitch field.
