hey does anyone check this forum?

Hi i just bought a standard etherwave theremin a few weeks ago. For the first time since assempling it, i took the antennas off to test out the gig bag.
I took it upstairs where i am now and i noticed that when i play it, especially in the low register, the tone has its own vibrato, more like a pulsating noise that i never noticed before and I listened hard.
Does anyone know what may cause this vibtation?

Is the vibrato always the same frequency, or does it change as you play the volume antenna too? It's possible that the two circuits are tunes close enough together that you're getting some cross talk. I'm not sure why moving it would have caused that, but maybe it's warmer upstairs and as a result the circuits are operating slightly differently?

If you're bringing it to EtherMusic 2005, I'm sure there will be folks who can take a look and help you figure it out. Maybe drop it off at Moog Music during the factory tour :)

ah, nevermind that Ethermusic comment.. I introduced a bug in the forums tonight that made it look like EVERYONE was going :) Don't I wish!

Well you know, this is the first time I moved it upstairs since I got it. I took the antennas off for the first time to test the gig bag, and when i put them back on i noticed that i was hearing some of that pop when touching the volume antenna that another member complained about.

I theorized that the temperature up here was alot warmer and that the computer's magnetic field might cause some interferance.
I took it back downstairs and the pulsating vibrato ceased yet the antenna still pops. I think that the Etherwave is just a piece of crap i guess. We got what we paid for.

I thought that i had clicked NO on the etherwave tour when i joined hahaha. Id love to go though.

Id love to send a copy of my album to Dr Moog. We did it featuring a MicroMoog synth that has been babied for at least 20 years.

Sorry you're not happy with your Etherwave. If you just bought it, it should still be under warranty. try calling Moog Music and see if they'll either fix it or replace it (or if they have any other suggestions for the pop).

If you had it near a computer monitor, that definitely could have caused a vibrato. It's actually pretty amazing how much of a field those things have.

the etherwave are far from being a piece of crap. Sure they're cheap,and that's what makes them perfect to learn on and see if you really want to learn how to play one. Mine served me faithfully for 8 years before upgrading tol an EPro, and a wavefront. I still take it out now and then, and if I had to give up my other theremin's, i'd still be happy with my standard

I have never had the "pop" problem with my Etherwave.

The oscillating may have been cause by the electrical outlet you had it plugged into upstairs. Maybe it was as well grounded or something.

I would try removing the antennae and putting them back on again to see if the problem persists.

I usually leave my volume loop on when I transport it to and from gigs. I am looking for a case or a gig bag that would allow me to do that while protecting the instrument. The less I have to assemble and breakdown the better!

That's a good point. The 1 thing (and really, the only thing) that's ever annoyed me about the Etherwave is having to screw it on and off the mic stand. I think there's an opportunity here for someone to come up with a better mounting mechanism or stand specifically designed for the Etherwave.

my mike stand adaptor screw base thing or whatever it's called stripped a while ago and i had to replace it, but I moved it around , took it apart sometimes twice in a day,, threw it in the back of vans, left it set in smoky bars, let it sit in the sun and kept it a hot parked car for a weekend played at un-airconditioned wedding's, and that's the only thing that ever happened to it. I haven't used my Epro out anywhere near as as much yet, and all ready i'm starting to have troubles.
As far as the pop when touching the volume antenna, didn't Clara even have that problem at times?
