Has anyone played around with the schematics at Art's site for his model 145?

Specifically, I am interested in building a theremin for fun (hopefully it will be fun ;-> ) and was wondering how well this model would compare to the "RadioShack" piece model here:

The RS Ultimate does look easier, but would Art's be a better quality result with regards to the circuitry design?
