I've been thinking a bit more about how significant this news is. In the past 4 months, we've lost the 2 most important and significant creators of theremin kits in history. Sure, there are other kits available, and these will continue to be available (most likely) for some time, but without innovation and a true dedication to the do-it-yourself culture, will homebuilt theremin building survive?

Many thoughts come to mind... mainly thoughts of gratitude for Paia kits that have contributed to my life in many ways.
One of my early Paia projects was the Headphone distribution amplifier -- my son (who was six years old at the time) was fascinated with it and ever since then, my son has assisted with the construction of every kit since then. I am grateful for the Paia company for providing many hours of quality time for my son and I.
My modular synth had started gathering a bit of dust until I discovered the Paia MIDI to CV converter. Useful products such as the converter and the Tube Mic Preamp provide important functionality for my studio.
The Theremax introduced me to the Theremin two months ago and the process of building, troubleshooting, and modding it has contributed greatly to my own insight into the instrument. The Theremax has a lovely tone -- in fact, I chose it to record the Ave Maria (November contest) piece.
John Simonton and Bob Moog have created much interest in the Theremin and perhaps they have created a "critical mass" of enthusiasts that will keep up the vitality of the Theremin community. Others who emulate these men have the opportunity to stand on the shoulders of giants.
