EWPro Audio Leaking

Hi all, 

I'm getting a low level pitch in the audio output of my EWPro when my hand is on the loop and the instrument is un-muted.

When the mute switch is on it does not happen.

The instrument has the pitch preview mod and the volume loop mod.

Has anyone else experienced this?  It's a concern with a major performance coming up and this is making it difficult to increase my out from the amp which I 'll need to do to feed into the house system at the theater.

I have spent limited time w/ epros, but to me, it sound like the volume oscillator frquency has drifted out of range.  

That is a known problem on older EPros. There is a small adjustable capacitor accessible through a little hole below the volume loop from the outside. You need a plastic tuning tool to adjust the height of the muting point. The adjustment is very tricky - a few hundreds of a millimeter too much and you have either always on or alway off. Thus take your time and stay calm while recalibrating the volume loop's resonance.

Is one direction better than the other to start?

There is no preferred direction, that small variable capacitor turns 360°

I've also noticed some obvious distortion in the sound: octave setting to low, playing right around the upper end lowest octave pitches, about a third away from zero beat point, there is distinct break and static in the sound.  So far it only seems to be right at that point in the lowest pitches.  It happens with any timbre.

Is this related to this volume screw?

No, the latter phenomenon is rather related to dust inside the register switch itself which bridges the different register signals. Remove the pitch and the volume board, take an high pressure air spray, than a contact cleaning spray, and then the air spray again and try to clean the register switch which is located between the control board pub and the wooden front panel by actioning it at the same time.

Cleaning the register switch could already solve your muting problem, too, perhaps there is no need to fiddle with the screw.

Should I remove the switch from the front panel, or can I just spray into it from the back?

Try spraying from the back. You can't simply just remove the switch. You'd have to loose all front panel elements (pots and switches) to pull the control PCB out backwards. And that is a real pain in the ...ss.
