I just ordered an ESPE01 module for my Etherwave Standard.  I have no clue as to how a soldering iron works, but luckily my brother-in-law is a skilled electronics guy and will undertake installation. My question is post-install tuning.  Can someone please post details?

With the module, there comes a little manual which includes a link towards a tutorial video. Normally, it's just one inductor (L6) which has to be slightly retuned to re-center the pitch knob.

Thanks!  I'm looking forward to it.

The ESPE01 is now installed in my EWS, however my tone seems "muffled" for lack of a better term. My amp is a low end 15 watt Behringer Ultratone KT108; could this be an issue?

The sound should not be more muffled than before. It is intentionally less harsh in the cello register around 130 Hz where an unmodified Etherwave starts sounding just ugly. Setting the waveform and the brightness knobs both to about 3 o'clock, you should get a beautiful and natural clarinet like sound. And with the waveform knob between 10 and 11 o'clock and the brightness still around 3, you should get a string instrument like timbre over the whole pitch range. If not, something has most probably gone wrong during the installation.

Besides of that, you should understand that the Behringer KT-108 is a cheap entry level amp for beginners which can not handle the extended pitch range in an appropriate manner. I play both my theremins, an Etherwave with ESPE01 and a Russian tVox tour through a Bose L1 speaker system which can well reproduce the wide pitch range.

A new amp did the trick. I'm now using a Behringer KXD12 and the sound is wonderful.
