Fitting tuner for the etherwave

Hello theremin enthusiasts ,

A while ago I build a theremin using the HOT-RODDING guide of Robert Moog and the help of some forum members here. The build was a lot of fun and the theremin works really well, but I never actually used the theremin.

I would now like to learn to play on it a bit. I think A tuner would be really help full but I am not sure what model is best to use with a Etherwave. I installed the OUTPUT AMPLIFIER FOR TUNER circuit, using the IC LM3080. Can the 1.4V peak to peak signal be fed directly into a guitar tuning pedal? And if so, are there models that are more suitable than others to use with a theremin?

The output signal of that circuit can easily be fed into whatever line level or instrument level input. I have no experience with specific guitar tuning pedals, but many of my students have their instruments upgraded with the same circuit and use a small battery operated pocket instrument tuner, fixed with a clamp to the mic stand, just below the Theremin for easier readability.

Thank you for the info. Do you have an example of a good hand held tuner?

Does the etherwave plus standardly come with a output for tuner? Or does it also need a mod?

On the Etherwave Plus, you might change the position of the internal jumper, so that the headphone output transforms into a volume loop independent pitch preview output. Then, the signal amplitude depends only on the position of the headphone volume knob. Not an ideal solution, but perhaps worth to check out since the headphone output itself is otherwise of no musical value.

In the time where everybody wished the tuner display, the Korg DT-4 Tuner was good and cheap. Now it‘s out of production, but it can perhaps still be found on eBay.

Here is how I did it again today, still building Bob Moog’s original circuit around a CA3080 on some Veroboard:
