Could a Blind Person Learn to Play the Theremin?

Several blind Thereminists have visited Theremin World including our very own Thomas Grillo.

I have not met my 22 yr old neighbor yet but he has skill beyond human, maybe metaphysical. He has traveled around Temecula Valley the last two years playing the local wineries and pubs. He plays a dozen musical instruments. It is interesting in how he does not know how good he is, a humble musician. Only a handful of people in the world have his gift.

The theremin I could present him has not been built yet, I think of a theremin relationship as symbiotic and together they would be naturally beautiful.

Thinking out loud...

Wow! That sounds really great what he's doing!
Theremin playing wouldn't be any problem for him! If he has blindistic behavior like rocking & such, the theremin even might help him get rid of that too, as you can't use those kind of things when you are playing theremin of course

Also, you don't need your eyes at all to play, but you need an absolute hearing (which he has!) and some insight on where the antennaes are ... Theremins even can train a blind person's proprioception!

Yes, Thomas Grillo is legally blind ... But TW has another legally VI-person ... Me  I'm born with a form of Optic Nerve Dysplasia and Congenital Nystagmus. With my left eye I can see 25% and with my right eye 0.5%.

Hello Yeapsystar,

This local kid barely old enough to drink plays the local pubs. He has a charm about him and it was suggested he try out for America’s Got Talent this last go around.

When I mention he does not know how good he is, like a miracle he wins AGT and instead of a live Las Vegas show, I saw his schedule and he is back to playing the local pubs. Everyone is a teacher and this one has something special, his name is Kodi Lee of Temecula Valley.

A REAL Master is a Master who is the Pupil of the Pupil, who will be the Master's Master

What I mean to say is this: the importance is NOT in how good YOU are in YOUR capabilities, but in WHAT you want to share and especially for WHAT REASON ... If you make music from out of your HEART, your playing automatically will make more sense, wether it's good or not, but in most cases the things you do even will be a lot better!

The trouble usually starts when people THINK they are good, but they aren't and they do it MERELY for the money! And unfortunately, they are also foundable in Theremin Land .....

There's nothing wrong with staying humble!
