EW+ sounds like a chainsaw

hi-hi-hilfe...
so i turned my etherwave+ with espe on and it sounds like this:

shitty.
it did not sound like this yesterday and i did not change anything with my setup.
i also tried another amp just to be sure.
tone and waveform pots work as usual, i mean they change the sound.
volume and pitch pot are ok too.
what’s wrong with my theremin, wich part said arrividerci, sayonara, tschüss and adios?

The Amplitude of the sound is too far down in the weeds for a good evaluation. Bring the level up more.

You could gut it and replace it with a Phoenix

thanks christoph, i try tomorrow to record it louder, if that one is not loud enough.
i gutted it once before, and kept the old ew-pcb,  so yes, i could replace the broken one with the old one.
(and send the broken one to thierry and pick it up there at the summer academy!)
sorry man, but i think that your phoenix would not work together with the plus board and the cv features.

My EW sounded like that one time when I tried it with a tiny battery powered non grounded amplifier.

yes daniel, it does sound like a ungrounded theremin. but my things are well grounded, so that is not the issue.

instead of recording a more proper soundfile, i replaced the main-pcb and...same shitty-sound.
my logic says: must be the plus board then, causing the trouble.

luckily, i have a spare plus-board and no plans for the evening, so i go ahead with the replacement-work.

Sounds like interference from a cheap LED light bulb. Or a cheap power supply. Check those before you panic or drive a 100 miles.

Also, do you have another theremin turned on in close proximity?

BTW  - following your noise sample with HARDCORE punk music required shutting down my volume until I could find the window again.

If anyone likes this sort of sound, I recommend the WMD Geiger Counter for exquisite distortion to blend in with your mix.

I cannot explain the behavior, but the diagnosis of the sound suggests that there is either a grounding or a shielding problem. The sideband modulations of the main tone and the overtones seem to be +/- 100 Hz (motorboating effect). But that is not yet all. The wirering of the inbuilt new buffer unit could be wrong.

I still think being down in the weeds is pointing to something; maybe you are cranking up the sound and bringing all the background noise up with it. My first guess the problem is a quiet Volume Section. This happens by design by Moog so you buy another one. Maybe Static Discharge got you. LOL

On the 8 pin strip connect the VCA Out, pin 2 to +V, Pin 6 to bypass control of the sound to full on. Then give us sound sample.

If you get good sound then my first try at fixing is replace diode D1, nothing critical here, maybe use a 1N914.  Thierry is only 100 miles or 160 km away.

PS: I was going to give someone's theremin my interpretation of the classic sound. They said can I keep my Thierry Mod and I said why, they said never mind I will keep what I got. hummmm...?
