matryomin ensemble

Masami Takeuchi's Matryomin ensemble "Mable" has released it's first CD, or at least a sampler of it called "SHOKOU mini album for overseas regions" available for download from mandarinelectron and at iTune Stores!

Matryomin is a Matrioshka (Russian babushka nesting doll) shaped theremin. It is a pitch only instrument and was invented by Masami Takeuchi. Mable is a ensemble of Matryomin players. All members of Mable are expert theremin players who study under Masami Takeuchi. Mable's 1st full CD album "SHOKOU -morgenrote-" will be released on April 8th 2009. But it will be sold only in Japan.
Hope we can get one here somehow!

Congratulations to the Mable Ensemble.

oh spirits of all the heavens
so far I have seen bliss
my jaw has hit the floor
my foot has stomped and
I laughed with complete delight out loud
and I think I... plotzed.

this is an awesome
classical music blitz.
(and pitch only by the way!)
as soon as I recover I'll try
and say more about this album.

thank you so much mable and mato.Master!

Shokou ("the first light of dawn" [open to correction on that])

The arrangements in this album are simply astounding.

Rich with wit, texture, rhythm and romance, Masami pulls every possible nuance out of the pitch only Matryomin theremins and exploits the advantage of having an ensemble of them to not only provide harmonies but to extend the articulation of the lines with a kind of hocket style writing. The same richness goes for the accompaniments, some with just percussion, bass and organ giving you the feel of a full orchestra.

The packaging is visually exciting and witty too and the booklet gives the feel of a music video you wish you could watch as you listen to this group pull you through one toe tapping number to the next sublime reverie and on and on...

[plot spoiler high points]
Opening with Also Spake Zarathustra the group really shows you who's boss and the addition of Good Vibrations is a triumph over the years of misinformation about that song, and I cannot imagine what the television originals of Edo Spectacle must have been like.

Masami really sets the stage for you to accept the Matryomin for what it is, and then shows you just how much it can do!

Congratulations again and many thanks to you Mable!
