I just picked up the Taito Thereminmin but i'm having trouble getting it to work and wondering if anyone has suggestions.
I have knob #1 set at the halfway point and have tried adjusting the #2 knob up and down. I can only find one setting where the theremin isn't constantly making noise but will react to my hand by the wire. But my hand has to get within an inch and a half.
I haven't tried the foil idea to extend the range yet.

I have knob #1 set at the halfway point and have tried adjusting the #2 knob up and down.

For the Thereminmin:
Knob #1 on the left is a volume control.
Knob #2 center, is oscillator #1.
Knob #3 right, is oscillator #2.

Adjust Volume to comfortable level.
Adjust middle knob to center. (vertical)
Adjust right knob to find the optimal range, lock-gap.

FYI to potential buyers, I'm down to about 4 units left as of 2/20/09!

Thanks for the reply - I understand what the knobs are for but it just doesn't seem to work for me. There is only one small location turning the #2 dial where I can get it to work but my hand has to be very close to the wire.

Alas, Japan only manufactures what their distributors order, and that's it. So unless they decide to make another run, what's out there will be it. So, sadly, I won't be able to get anymore.
