i really just need an exponential converter circuit. any links to circuits or how to set it up, such as which transistors will work and how to orient them.

The link I sent you, while maybe a bit "heady" does show how to configure an exponential amp (a.k.a. antilog amp).

Since you are dealing with lower frequencies, just about any 'ole transistor will work. 2N2222, 2N3904, etc. The link goes into a lot of detail about temperature compensation, etc. but I would just start with the simplest antilog amp and see how it goes.
