Ah, that makes sense. It may have been the length (some of the wires were definitely too long by about half an inch or so, which probably adds up), or it may have been a cold soldered joint or two. I tell you, those panel connectors just suck the heat out of your soldering iron. Whew, what a relief that it's done! Though it was fun building it...

Now to learn to play it :P

Hello, and welcome Metaphor!
I believe that the shielded wire was to be used to connect the pitch rod and volume loop to the circuit board. Also, is the circuit board of your ThereMax sitting on the cardboard, or elevated above it on stand-offs? Also the ThereMax circuit board should have a ground plane,(foil or metal plate), below it as per the PAiA instructions for this kit.
Just some thoughts.
