STILL waiting for my Theremin Plus...

I'm not sure if this is an appropriate/on-topic post, but I need to get this out somewhere.

I ordered a Theremin Plus from Moog 3 weeks ago, and at the beginning they said they were backordered, and that it would take 2 weeks at the most, maybe less, to ship it out to me and take my money. Then those 2 weeks went by, and when I tried to contact them, they finally told me that they were still waiting for parts and it would probably take another week for them to ship it out.

Well, it's the end of this week, and I've tried to contact them again, but for some reason the people at Moog are unbelievably difficult to reach at the right times, or able to reply to you. God forbid I need any technical assistance, if or when I finally get this thing.

Have I been waiting way too long to get this? Is it normal for Moog to be this slow at sending products to their customers? Am I being screwed over?

I'm sorry, it's just that I've been waiting so long and it's very hard to be patient when I want a theremin so badly. I've been listening to a radio podcast with Pamelia Kurstin today, so my interest has gotten into hyperdrive and it's only made me so angry at how Moog's been making me wait.

At least they haven't charged me yet. That's the only good thing that's come out of this so far.

Hello, and welcome.

Firstly, the fact they've not charged you yet should tell you something about their integrity.

If they say it's backordered, you can count on it.

I went for about 5 weeks waiting for my ash finnished EW Standard with a pitch preview mod I had had them add in while I was waiting.

Don't lose hope. Try contacting them between 10 am, and 4 pm eastern time.

They've never let me down, and they've allways gone the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of promptly.

I do know that especially with the new Plus newly released, they've had an incredibly long back order. I needed one for a major production I was working on, but they informed me it was not likely they'd be able to have one available before my filming deadline. That was a month, and a half ago.

Try to hang in there a little longer, but do try to check back with them between those hours I gave you.

Good luck, and all the best.

"Is it normal for Moog to be this slow at sending products to their customers?"

I'm afraid the answer to that question is...yes.

That's why it is a bad idea to order anything from Moog Music unless you absolutely have to.
Moog Music is an instrument manufacturer, not a retailer.

You'd have been much better off ordering your Etherwave Plus from one of the on-line retailers that actually have the instrument in stock.

You will get your instrument....eventually. But, do not blame them. It was your decision, and now you will just have to be patient. Sorry.

well, re: technical assistance, many times when i have called amos gaynes himself answers the phone, which i think is pretty sweet (e.g., it beats not having your call routed to somewhere around the world to some guy who is just walking through a flow-chart!)

Amos Gaynes is the Man! He has been a great help to me on a couple of occasions.

Moog is a really small company making handmade instruments so one does have to be patient. It's not like ordering from Amazon or something.

Small company or not, sales could sharpen their act up.

You don't say two weeks unless you mean it.

(Sorry Moog - love your theremins, but business is business.)

Thanks guys. I just needed to know why I was waiting, and now I understand, so I'm not freaking out anymore. Plus, just this morning they called me and informed me that they have all the parts they need for my instrument now, so soon, perhaps next week they're going to ship it out. :)

I have dealt with Moog Music (previously Big Briar) for years and they have never, ever delivered anything on time as promised.

BUT.....

When the item finally does arrive it is just so wonderful that all is forgiven. It's always been worth the wait (I waited several months past the promised delivery date for my Ethervox theremin). But who cares! It is a work of art.

The Moog people (like the late Bob himself) are really fine folks. If you have a problem, they are there and always willing to help in any way they can.

Yeah, they're SLOW but they're GOOD.

Never fear, whatever you have ordered will get there, and when it does you'll be so thrilled you'll forget there was a problem.

SLOW!
That's what is 'good' about most everything in life.
Looking around and learning!
Building things correctly!
Moog is an American Icon Company: they are too small to fail!
Are you listening you progresive/liberal socialists?
Good Luck!

Here (http://www.thereminworld.com/forum.asp?F=808&T=4052&cmd=p&p=1) are a few more thoughts on that subject.
