Before an important gig, the leader of the band pulled the thereminist aside and said, "Look, we've made a few changes to the piece where you have your big thermin solo.

We're going to modulate the key by about a half-tone flat after the first turn-around. Then we will go back up to the original key.

After that, we will all back off so you can add a wild dissonant section where you just go crazy with the thing for a few measures.

Then we'll slow the tempo down gradually and lower the volume until just before the final few bars, where we will pick it back up again and play twice as loud as the reat of the piece."

The theremin player looked at him and said, "Boy! That's a lot of changes. I don't know if I can remember all that!"

The band leader then said, "Well you should have no trouble. That's exactly how you played it last night."
