I rather think that you've been the victim of politeness and political correctness of the forum members. We have several experts here. But if one sees that another has already replied, he will probably not jump in to give a better advice or even to contradict his predecessor in order to not humiliate him... ;-)

I was leaning towards Oakland and so you are local. Back in the 1960's I use to hitchhike from Long Beach Blvd down Artesia to 2nd St in Hermosa Bch. Then moved to HB where I could watch people surf from my Apartment windows for 18 yrs. Those were the days. Us old people like to look back, that's why we dare not hold babies as we might snatch their breath. lol
Now I am not far from the Pechanga Reservation.
