That's so funny, all my theremins are male,
and I named them accordingly.

You should.
I've named all my instruments over the years.
Maybe it comes from coming up with pipe organs,
they all have names e.g. First Pres. Austin,
St. Lukes Phelps, CSU Casavant...
When you meet my theremins, I'll tell you their names.

Seems in Spanish it's become a masculine noun, what gender noun is it French and other gendered languages?
thereminhispano (http://www.thereminhispano.com/)
Of course an actual object with a masculine noun can still be any sex.
