This month's picture is from Siew Hung Shum in Sinagpore. He writes: "I have built an all valve Theremin using tuned coil oscillators. The pitch antenna is made from plastic sheet covered with aluminum foil. The pitch
range is about four and a half octave."

circa 1939 RCA A-6 table radio cabinet. We liked them so much, we posted all of them to the

August 2001 - Jason Coffman

This month's picture is from Jason Coffman. He Writes:
"This is the Hello Kitty theremin Christine and I built for the anaphylaxis performance on 12/2/2000 (and all performances thereafter). It was built using a Chuck Collins theremin circuit board kit and a Sanrio Hello Kitty jewelry box. The small compartment on the side was drilled through to make a battery compartment (see below). I usually use Danelectro batteries, but the last one I had died, so this is the spare I keep in the compartment."

About me: I play a Big Briar Etherwave through a
bunch of effects. I live in Portland, OR. In
addition to solo shows, I perform as half of the
improv duo Topiary Kings. I play drum kit,
electronics and theremin. The other guy -- Courtney
von Drehle -- plays accordion, saxes and guitar.

May 2001 - Jason Barile

May's picture of the month is a shot of some Etherwaves on the assembly line at Big Briar's factory in Asheville, North Carolina.
The photo was taken by Jason Barile in the Summer of 1997. On the table are 24 preassembled Etherwaves near completion.
You can also see a few unfinished cabinets in the background.
April 2001 - Roger Luther

April's picture of the month comes from Roger Luther. This is a recently restored R.A.Moog Model 201 Theremin -
one of only 20 or so built by Bob Moog as a teenager while living in
Flushing, New York. It is the first instrument he produced for sale. The
cabinet is solid mahogany with a polished brass pitch antenna and volume
plate. Bob describes the 201 Theremin in his article that appeared in
"Radio and Television News", January 1954.
Mr. Luther is the creator of the Moog Archives, an excellent website dedicated
to the history of the R.A. Moog instruments.
