The web offerings from Moog Music have grown into one of the most impressive campaigns of digital marketing and outreach currently on the net.

Their latest production is the new Live At Moog video series produced in partnership with Paste Magazine. A visit to the Moog Factory in Asheville, North Carolina is almost a spiritual pilgrimage for many bands and their one time only performances at the factory along with new songs, behind-the-scenes footage, and inside info. from each band are being recorded for this new series.

Live at Moog can be viewed at www.pastemagazine.com/moog and www.liveatmoog.com. A new session in the series will debut on Paste's homepage every week and already includes Yo La Tengo, Matisyahu and White Rabbit. Now all they need is a thereminist to round it out!

Keep On Mooging!

Bob Moog Theremin Lecture

It's been inspiring to see the continued growth and market savvy at Moog Music since Bob Moog died (and of course the new theremin too!), and the Bob Moog Foundation has had great successes and done tremendous outreach in such a short time.

Bob Mood Demo

After a lifetime of invention dedicated to creating music, and keeping theremins in production throughout, Bob Moog really is living on in a vital and physical way as his work and spirit continue along many paths around the world.

Not bad for a kid from New York City, and proud Bronx Science High School graduate.

Thanks a million Bob!

He died August 21, 2005.

The economy and theremin shopping have met in another unexpected opportunity. One of the unique U-Shaped Big Briar 91b Theremins by Bob Moog is up for auction on ebay, and ends May 25th. I believe this is the same model Lydia Kavina used in her Moog training video.

Thanks Theremin_Ohio for the tip, as with any online purchase: caveat emptor. Hope it finds a happy home and gets played often.

big ears

The Bob Moog Foundation will be bringing its Interactive Sonic Experience, or MoogLab, to the inaugural BIG EARS '09 music festival in Knoxville, Tennessee. BIG EARS '09, taking place this weekend (February 6th-8th), which looks to be a wild three days of musical explorations. And Pauline Oliveros will be there too!

After some astounding theremin controlled video setups last year, The Foundation will be offering its MoogLab experience throughout the weekend. A team of volunteers will be guiding folks through several interactive stations of Moog theremins, synths, and effect pedals.

The mission of BIG EARS is to offer an exciting and dynamic platform of musical and artistic discovery, presenting a variety of new music concerts and performances, discussions, and installations.

Moog Etherwave Plus Theremin

At this year's NAMM show, Moog Music is announcing a new model in the hugely popular Etherwave Theremin line - the Moog Etherwave Plus!

The new Etherwave Plus builds on the success of the Etherwave Standard by adding built-in CV (Control Voltage) outputs. The CV signals are proportional to the pitch and volume of the theremin's audio signal and can be connected to the pitch and volume CV inputs of a Little Phatty, Voyager, or other analog synthesizer. Control anything from the cutoff frequency of a Moog Ladder Filter or the LFO Amount on a Moogerfooger Ring Modulator to the stereo panning on a Minimoog Voyager.

Specifically, the “Plus” features include:

  • Pitch & Volume CV Outputs - control a different CV parameter with each hand
  • Gate Output – trigger envelopes and other events
  • Pitch Preview/Headphone Output - with separate volume control, lets you hear your note before the audience does.
  • Power LED - instant visual power status on dark stages

The Etherwave Plus will sell for a suggested price of $519.

Current owners of the Etherwave Standard can have their theremins upgraded to match the specs of the Etherwave Plus with a kit for $149 or as a factory-installed upgrade for $179. We previously announced the factory-install option, but the field-installable kit was a pleasant surprise!

Remember the theremin modifications we told you about recently? Some of our readers thought they were priced a little on the high side. Luckily, Moog was listening and just in time for the holidays, they've cut prices on the mods. The pitch preview mod dropped from $179 to $149, and the pitch preview/LED combo dropped from $199 to $179.

Kudos to Moog for listening to feedback from the theremin community! Now... where's that new pro model we've been asking for? ;)
