Etherwave becomes mute

Perhaps someone can help me with a problem my Etherwave Standard is having.

Occasionally, my theremin stops outputting sound. This mostly happens when I leave the instrument on for a period of time.

When this occurs, the volume circuit dampens all output. When I connect a voltmeter to ground and pin 12 of the IC, it reads -12v. Adjustment of L11 or approaching the volume antenna has no effect on the voltage.

I've changed the IC, but that didn't help.

Random changes (taking the Etherwave off the mic stand or touching the synthesizer to which it's connected) may correct the problem (or maybe not).

The pitch circuit always works fine. I know this because the pitch preview behaves as expected.

Any ideas? Could it be a grounding issue?

Thanks for your help.

I rather suppose that the volume osc stops working. This may be due to a bad soldering or a faulty transistor/capacitor. You can easily check this with an oscilloscope.
