Hi,

Just wondering - When one gets a "trouble in the ether" message, does this always automatically generate an "alert" to TW staff, as it says - or should we advise you anyway?

I am getting this message when I try to post a reply on the "New years gift - new theremin" thread in the construction forum, and its weird cause its the only thread doing this, I can post elsewhere (as proved by this ;-)

It doesn't generate an alert, but just a new line in a log file, AFAIK. Thus it is best to notify Jason at the same time. BTW: same problem for me, can't add a post to the Thierrymin thread...

I am getting the same message when I try to post to the staccato pedal thread. (From Safari on iOS and OSX.)

It seems that Jason is actually very busy and can still not interact "in real time" for the next 3 days. I haven't enough access rights to solve this kind of problems, so please be patient. The TW staff is doing its best :-)

We're having all sorts of strange problems these days.  Apparently our web host blocked our SMTP service because somehow a spammer was using one of our thereminworld.com accounts to send gobs of spam.  If you try to reply to threads people have subscribed to, then the email alert fails to send and is blocking you from posting.

As of tonight, we're still partially blocked and I've escalated to an emergency support request.  New users cannot register because their account validation mails are not getting sent.  They tell me they've re-enabled our mail service, but obviously something is still broken.

Sorry for all the trouble folks. We'll get this resolved as soon as possible.

I've also noticed tonight I can no longer log out using IE11.  Please let me know if you see that problem too with IE or any other browser/version.

Hi Jason,

You really have a lot of hassle to deal with - I wonder if TW was targeted because of our comments about spammers...

The details which follow are in the hope that they may help - NOT as any sort of complaint or grumble! - In light of your disclosure, I think I can see some possible reason for my "Lock out" :

I am running XP and was running MSE - The final MSE update completely screwed my PC (the nag window locked up and I wasnt able to do anything) .. I attempted system recovery, and iscovered that the final MSE update prevented this - all recovery points prior to the MSE update were unavailable... So I was left to manually work through the registry and remove all traces of MSE before I was able to repair other damage it had done.

I decided to upgrade my browser to FireFox, and install McAffee security.. Then tried to log in to TW from FireFox.

I got an error message "password or user-name error" - now I MIGHT have mis-typed my password.. But I requested a password reminder anyway - And I never got the reminder (reasons for which are now clear) and have not been able to log-in either with IE8 or FireFox since then.

I had forgotten about Sillyconica, so tried to create a new login account - I never even got as far as waiting for an email - the email I entered was rejected as "invalid user" or something like that - When I checked (verified) this email with other on-line testers, it came back fine.

As an aside, I have TW Login for FredM on other PC's (including Android tablet) with the password 'encoded' and unchanged, and these dont log in to FredM either - so I strongly suspect that either something has corrupted my password at TW, or that something else is blocking my access.. Probably the result of my requesting a password reminder.

All I can say is that you certainly stopped spammers from signing up for membership !  ;-) .. Even without the bugs, I had to scroll through dozens of Captch before I found one remotely comprehensible - As for the audio version, how the F does anyone hear words in that ??? ....

Hope all goes well sorting this out, and many thanks for your efforts.

Fred.

Sorry - im not going to risk logging out, just in case I cant log back in! ;-)

So far, no luck. Our web host claims email is no longer blocked, but I'm clearly seeing the email service return errors.  Thanks to everyone for your patience with this. I am now looking at transferring to a different web host this weekend if we can't resolve the problem by then.

Ok folks, I believe I finally have the problem fixed with the email system. This was the root cause of the problems with new users signing up, with forum posting (if anyone had subscribed to receive email notifications about posts), with private messaging, reporting spam posts, etc.

Please let me know if you find any more problems on the site. I will do my best to resolve them quickly.

I really appreciate everyone's patience and understanding through this mess.

It seems that everything works again... Just had to "nuke" another newly subscribed seller of fake id-cards...
