Not sure if it’s talent or just eye and ear candy. It looks to me as the opposite of traditional precision Theremin playing, using the Theremin as a simple gesture trigger/controller for prerecorded samples and pre-configured effects.
There doesn’t seem to be long years of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears in it which drastically reduces the artistic value of that performance in my humble eyes.

Volume controls volume, naturally, pitch controls the low pass filter, obvious. The synth is just pulsing, the theremin is the gate for it.
Daniel, what he is doing is simple and well within your capabilities, even if you go for aerial fingering.
When I played the Odyssey I would do the same thing with the foot pedal while playing the other keyboards.
Traditional precision theremin playing is a tunnel vision. Some folks prefer the difficult and long path because it is tradition.
Speaking of tradition, is this guy using aerial fingering?

Uh, I'm no expert, but it seems like it to me.  I mean, his fingers are doing some pitch work there.  Do you disagree?

Traditional Theremin playing is the way it is because the traditional Theremin is the way it is.  Rational players are making rational decisions based on the instrument they are presented with.

Cupping your hands fingers is not aerial fingering, I think you are reaching pretty far . . after all, Clara Rockmore started that path. Nothing about Theremin's play resembles violin fingering. Rational decisions involve ditching the pole antenna for the plate - walking the tightrope vs. walking a sidewalk. the pole antenna was a marketing decision, not a practical one.

But this is religious thing involving belief and faith . . . keep the instrument difficult and obtuse. That way only Charlie is my competition. Damn he is good. Probably even better.
