It's nice to know that I no longer have the monopoly on upsetting, offending and angering people. Of course, when I do it, it's no inadvertent slip-o'-the-tongue. It's generally the result of having told the truth.

Peter, IMO there is no such thing as "the truth" - there is only "my truth" or "your truth" - so yeah - we tell "the truth" and go about "offending and angering people" believeing that we are "right" and that "truth" is justification.

And many (or even every)  times we tell "the truth" with good intent  - believing that we are helping or enlightening others, regardless of the effect of this on our popularity - "I dont care if you dont like me because I tell the truth / you cant accept the truth"

For myself, I have now understood that this has made me come across as an arrogant individual - no - I must own it.. I am an arrogant individual.

Fred, If I tell you that your theremin version of THE SWAN stinks, that is "my truth". If, however, I tell you that I have carefully checked and you are not playing the notes that Saint-Saens wrote, that is not "my truth". That is THE truth.

That is the kind of "truth" I am talking about. And it pisses people off no end!

I have seriously angered a number of people who have posted so-called "theremin" recordings and videos, simply by pointing out the fact (in a totally non-judgmental way) that the instrument we are hearing is not a theremin at all, but a theremin program on a keyboard synthesizer.

This has nothing to do with a personal opinion or "my truth" - it's a FACT.

To me, as a thereminist, the difference in sound between a true theremin and a keyboard synthesizer is immediately apparent. For someone who is unable to discern the difference between the two, I'm just some stupid old fuck trolling for trouble, and just who the hell do I think I am?! .............an excellent question BTW.  LOL

Peter, ;-) I think I know exactly what you are saying, and IMO you are right - as am I when I make comments about technical quantifiable verifiable FACTS..

<< to those reading this - advance warning - What follows is not related to theremins, its mainly directed at Peter , and "metaphysical" LOL.. So if my ravings aint your cup of tea, exit now! :->>

Perhaps its just that I am completely screwed up at the moment (well - perhaps not just at "this moment" LOL ;-) which gets me responding to your posts in the way I do.. You see, I am completely and utterly lost WRT what to "believe", what "truth" is, what "facts" are, "reality" is - what anything and everything "is" (if in 'fact' anything is ;-)..

And this "lostness" probably motivates me to post the kind of BS I sometimes do... I oscillate between asserting "facts" and tearing the guts out of any "facts" I encounter - and I am perhaps frantically hoping that someone will hit me with a reply that causes some of the puzzle pieces to fit together..

In all my on-line encounters (in fact, in all the "encounters" in my life) you have been one of the few people who occasionally says something that gives me a glimpse of some paradym I have not thought of - or perhaps thought of but never explored.. I really doubt that you have any "answers" - But I certainly think that your life expierience being so different to mine, but that I feel I can somehow "identify" with many of the thoughts you expose, makes your input exceptionally valuable to me...

For example, your "explanation" for why the light St Ives in Cornwall was so exceptional - well, it was so "absurd" that I needed to look into it - Ok - Not sure I "believe" any of that stuff - but from it came the realization that perhaps the light was no different in St Ives, but that the place influenced my perception... Now the "reasons" you gave may be "true" or not - they cannot be verified either way by any scientific means - but  my thinking about a whole range of "subjective" matters expanded as a result of that discussion.. Even on a "scientific" level - IF the phenomenum is not due to 'mystical' reasons you gave, and IF there is something "physical" influencing perception in that place, then the mechanism for this change in perception is unknown and yet to be discovered...

But whatever - "spiritual" or "material" - I am open to both - I was released from the (almost) frustration of not seeing any possible way that what I was expieriencing could actually be happening..

Mmmmm......

I can't remember what I said about Cornwall etc., but I do recall making the connection. At the time, I felt I had to do something because you were as close to death as you had ever been in your life, and I was actually afraid we were going to lose you. THAT I remember. Whatever I said at the time was just a smokescreen for something else. Whatever you experienced had nothing to do with words.

BUGGER! Well I guess it really does not matter anymore that the events feature is broken now. Greyhound sold me a bogus ticket. They work on a first come first serve and screw the rest basis. They won't even issue a refund if your bus is full. No seat guarantee like on a train or airliner. RUBBISH. I was supposed to be in Monroe right about now as I write. Next bus not available til oh, after the gig. LOL So, now I get to unpack here at the studio. At least the venue is looking at rescheduling.

Thomas, did you think that the "theremin jinx" was strictly limited to technical problems with the theremin itself?

WE SHOULD BE SO LUCKY!

Really sorry to hear about your transportation problems but remember,  "It's not your fault. It's a crazy instrument." (Clara Rockmore)

Jason, now that you've fixed the EVENTS feature, is there anything you can do about the theremin jinx?
