Yea. Go look up Linsey Pollak. He makes instruments from all kinds of things.

And plays them really well. He's a very interesting and entertaining speaker. Brings out the musical child in you.

Playwright George Bernard Shaw, after hearing one of Lev Termen's demonstrations in London in the 1920's, remarked that he had heard better noises from a comb covered with tissue paper!

Ah yes, that highly prized RCA sound!  One time I was playing my melodia at a friend's house.  Her father in law was listening - he had Parkinson's disease and was very hard to understand, but finally he was able to convey the idea that the melodia sounded like...you guessed it, a comb covered with tissue paper!
