Has anyone seen "Love & Mercy" yet? It looks like an amazing movie about Brian Wilson's life and hardships, and how this influenced the making of their songs especially "God Only Knows"! :)
I did find the version of "Good Vibrations" that has Mike Love on a Moog ribbon controller, rather than Paul Tanner playing the Electro-Theremin. Bob Moog discusses the creation of that custom ribbon controller in the deleted scenes of the Moog Documentary, basically because the Beach Boys were guitarists and unfamiliar with playing an actual theremin :3
That version is, in my opinion, the most beautiful version of the song :)
And speaking of "God Only Knows", my favorite version of that song was made around the same time!
I think the late 60s was their greatest time, with pure analog sound and excellent harmony :)
UPDATE: After watching more trailers, I now have a better explanation - the 1960s was Brian Wilson's period of great creativity and energy. Later in his life he fell into mental illness, this is what the movie is about. Quite interesting, and one of the movie ads is true - one will never think of the Beach Boys the same way after seeing this touching movie :)
