Theramin or Theramini?

Hi guys, hoping someone can give me some advice please.
It's my partner's 50th birthfay coming up and he's always wanted a theramin. He's an all round musician...the sort who makes you sick 'cos he can play just about anything...although his main instruments are synths / organ.
Don't know whether I would be better getting him a traditional theramin or the new theramini. I gather the connectivity and variety of sounds on the theramini is good but am I right in that it doesn't have the sensitivity of the traditional instrument?
Don't want to ask which he would ptefer as I want it to be a suprise.

IMO the Theremini is a fascinating toy / conversation piece.  Get him a real Theremin if he's a real musician.
