SawStop system uses theremin concept to save fingers

If you've seen the film "Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey", you know the theremin has more than musical uses: turning on spinning birthday cakes, stopping bank robberies, lighting up store windows...

Now we can add 1 more to the list - saving fingers.

SawStop is a device that prevents gnarly table-saw accidents by creating a theremin-like sensor out of a spinning saw blade. If the operator's finger gets within a dangerous range, the blade is stopped with 5 milliseconds.

A video demonstration is available at the website.
